CHART OF THE DAY: More Evidence That Twitter Is Disconnected From The Mainstream

Twitter is a seriously great service. It’s arguably the best social network in the world.  However, it is still not a mainstream service. This chart from the Wall Street Journal shows the disconnect between mainstream folks and Twitter. On the left, we have the most popular TV shows, according to Nielsen. On the right, we have the most tweeted about shows.  As you can see, the most tweeted about show isn’t even a top ten TV show. There is very little overlap on what people tweet about and what people watch.  Join the conversation about this story »      Tech

A Jefferies Analyst Raised Her Price Target On Tesla Days After A Car Caught On Fire (TSLA)

Last week Tesla’s stock plummeted after a video of a Model S on fire went viral. Elon Musk took to his blog to explain the incident and defend the Model S. Today, Jefferies analyst Elaine Kwei called the the fire a “freak accident” and wrote that “the Model S is still considered safer than conventional vehicles.” Kwei raised her price target to $ 210, from $ 160. She also raised her third quarter Model S delivery estimate to 5,500 units, from 5,250 units “based on reported VIN numbers, deliveries in Europe, and higher rates of production.” “Last week we held ... Behind South Korea’s Big $65M Mobile Gaming Merger

They’ve been rivals for more than 10 years. Both Com2uS and Gamevil have battled for the local South Korean gaming market through the era of candy-bar phones until today. But in a new twist this month, they’re actually joining forces with Gamevil’s deal to spend roughly $ 65 million for a 21 percent stake in its longtime competitor. The reason? Android and iOS have fundamentally changed the global mobile gaming market. They’ve flattened it and games arguably can now cross cultural boundaries more fluidly than they ever have before. Games from European developers like King’s Candy Crush Saga and Supercell’s ... Read More

Living Without Apps: My Week in Hell

The premise of the challenge was simple: Survive one week without using any mobile apps whatsoever. Basically, I would willfully reduce my high-powered cellphone into husk of its former self, demote it to “dumbphone” status so I could only use it to text, make phone calls, and jolt myself into consciousness in the morning with an alarm.  Despite being a tech lover, I’m not an app junkie by any means. I pretty much stick to the basics and my very low interest in games saves me from dropping dough on Candy Crush Saga or anything else. One week of deprivation ... Read More

Instagram Brunch Pics May Help You Lose Weight

2 Chainz helps his followers drop pounds one butter-poached lobster omelet at a time. (Screengrab: Instagram) If you avoid Instagram on Sunday afternoons due to the endless stream of mimosa-and-omelet photos it yields, you may be messing up your diet big time. A BYU study found that maybe, just maybe, “seeing photos of certain foods, as opposed to eating them, still gives you a feeling of satiation, which makes those foods less appealing” when you go to stuff them in your face IRL, TechCrunch reports. Two professors recruited 232 people to rate pictures of food for the study, TechCrunch says. ... Read More

Steve Ballmer’s Final Letter To Shareholders As CEO ‘Of The Company I Love’ (MSFT)

Steve Ballmer’s long, slow good-bye to all things Microsoft continued on Monday afternoon when he published “the last shareholder letter I will write as the CEO of the company I love.” In it, he tried to sell shareholders again on his vision for the company. This includes his major reorganization last summer, the value of Bing, a justification for buying Skype for $ 8.6 billion in 2011 and for buying Nokia’s device business for $ 7 billion last month. The letter was published with Microsoft’s annual report. It’s Ballmer’s latest in a long string of good-byes as he prepares to ... Read More
